Current and recent projects

Away From Keyboard

AFK is a contemporary chamber music collective dedicated to innovative performance practice, multidisciplinary and technological collaborations, incorporating play structures and game mechanics into performance, and creating dynamic and interactive works for the stage and beyond. Our 24/25 programming includes commissions, workshops, concerts, and more!

The Cat That Lived a Million Times

I was honored to record this gorgeously sentimental piece by Anne Qian Wang alongside Elena Ariza, cello, who commissioned the work. Based on the book by Yōko Sano, this set of four miniatures follows a prideful cat searching for fulfillment and purpose through his many lives.

Music Speech Music

I recently premiered this piece by my fellow AFK co-founder Aidan Gold alongside Valerie Kim, violin, Lindan Burns, viola, and Jiaxun Yao, cello. It features all kinds of playing, talking, and extended techniques, meant to provide a humorous glimpse into a musician’s inner dialogue during the ups and downs of performance.

The Wind-Up Bird Preludes

One of my pandemic projects was learning and recording this incredible set of preludes by Ryan Anthony Francis, inspired by Haruki Murakami’s novel The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles. As both a Francis and Murakami fan, this piece is now a mainstay in my piano repertoire.

¡Precaución! Huapanguero suelto o Baile

One of the most fun and exhilarating solo violin pieces I’ve gotten to learn, I recently premiered the revised version of Marco-Adrián Ramos’s ¡Precaución! Huapanguero suelto o Baile at the Yale School of Music.

Dora Pejacevic: Cello Sonata, Op. 35

This was a special collaboration with my very good friend and colleague Audrey Chen. We set out to learn and record the Croatian composer Dora Pejacevic’s lush cello sonata, hoping that it will, someday soon, occupy a larger corner of the cello and piano repertoire.
